Vivien first joined Shearman Bowen as a newly qualified solicitor before leaving to spend almost 10 years as part of the Criminal Litigation team at Kingsley Napley. Vivien re-joined Shearman Bowen as a partner in 2021 and brings with her a wealth of experience in defending serious and complex criminal cases, including representing Rebekah Brooks during the phone hacking trial, advising suspects in the LIBOR and FOREX manipulation investigations and representing Oritse Williams, a member of the group JLS, who was acquitted of rape.
Vivien also has experience of advising in relation to investigations conducted by the SFO, FCA, HMRC and spent six-months on secondment at Ofgem, the energy regulator, where she advised on a range of licensing, competition and regulatory issues.
Vivien combines a meticulous and forensic approach to case preparation with a warm and approachable manner. She has been praised by clients for the support she provides at every stage of a case. She is an experienced and dedicated lawyer who is committed to achieving the best possible outcome for her clients.
Vivien has a particular interest in cases involving children and young people and is a regular contributor to the Youth Justice Legal Centre’s legal updates. She also maintains a commitment to pro bono activities, supporting Queen Mary University’s Legal Advice Centre, where she is also an Honorary Lecturer in the School of Law. Vivien has a niche specialism in the law relating to legal professional privilege in criminal proceedings and has written and spoken about this topic on numerous occasions.
